Technology....

I've been reading some very interesting articles regarding the use of technology in and out of schools and although some of ways teachers use technology is quite innovative I cannot help but still be a little apprehensive about trying it out myself. I'll admit the students in the blogs I've visited all seem very involved in what the teacher is doing and it's a truly neat way for students to learn since most kids are already spending considerable amounts of time on the internet. More on this later...

  1. Hi,
I tracked back visitors to my class blog to your EC&I wiki page. I thought I could share thoughts on using technology.
Students become engaged when you integrate technology into your teaching. My students know that when they write on their blog they are writing for a global community and what they write about people read. That's very motivating. Once you begin to introduce technology into your classroom you will find that students expand on your ideas and are eager to grasp new ideas and work on innovative projects. Good luck in your journey,

  2. Cheryl - this comment from Kimberly Brown is a teacher within my division and has done some of the most amazing work with her students using blogs. She is a tremendous contact for you and following her blog will provide you some interesting ideas and food for thought.

Of the teachers in my division who are actively pursuing blogging and using it as a tool to connect, collaborate and construct knowledge, I have seen amazing things happening with students from the perspective of their learning, of the interest and engagement in their learning and with their growing understanding of the world and their voice in the new global space of the Internet.

I hope this is something you will continue to explore.

  3. Hi Cheryl, how is it going? I'm really fascinated myself with all this technology connection. I've been checking out some classroom blogs and I think students enjoy the participation and cooperation that makes interaction so unique. Keep browsing and check out some of the step by step video that we need to upgrade our skills to become fluent in technology. Most of time, that's how I'm upgrading myself.

  4. Cheryl, boy does that connect to block 5 and the Disruptive Class article. I do think that there needs to be a reason for change and you're starting to see it. Hang in there, becuase I don't think that baby steps are so bad. Start small and dream big. darcy
